Homeless Project: When I was living in Richardson, Texas, my art was featured in galleries in Dallas, and I had just completed a Masters of Theological Studies in 2002. Then I met Dr. Alan Johnson. I asked God “Now what am I supposed to do?”; getting married felt right, so I went with it. We joined Circular Congregational Church of Charleston and they asked me to be in their Piccolo Spoleto art show. The title of the show was "Witness". I again knew the right thing to do, which for me was to go to a homeless shelter and begin painting.
As I did this, the residents of the shelter came up to me and talked as I painted. When the people running the shelter heard my credentials, they said, “We could use a chaplain!”. This was how I began a five year project of painting and talking. If we follow our heart, God is leading us. I am still doing the homeless series. We see that there are stories to tell. We listen. We learn.
