Nudes
For me, life drawing was begun when I obtained my studio in Richardson in 1980. I shared a studio space with five other women; we each had our own room and we shared a large space. We hired models who would pose nude, and we invited other artists to paint with us. It was a wonderful experience painting nudes, as it gets a person in touch with her own body. I have done a nude series. Picasso said that “painting is just another way of keeping a diary.” Robert Henri said “There is nothing in all the world more beautiful or significant of the laws of the universe than the nude human body. In fact, it is not only among the artists but among all people that a greater appreciation and respect for the human body should develop. When we respect the nude we will no longer have any shame about it.” It would be a better world if our children learned lessons from nudes instead of pornography.
